Q. How long do I have to respond to a ticket, and what happens when I do?
A. You must inform the court within 30 days from the date your ticket was issued that you intend to fight your ticket. When you hire us, we inform the court for you. Remember that because some months have 31 days, your deadline may be a day earlier than you think, so contact us today. Once we inform the court that we are fighting your ticket, the process becomes much slower. We go to court several times for technical aspects of your case. We strive to inform you of any developments in your case every step of the way. The process typically goes like this: (A) we let the court know we are fighting your case; (B) the court gives us a specific day to come back to court to announce whether we are ready to take your case to trial; (C) we go back to court and announce we are ready for trial and we receive a trial date; and (D) we go to trial and secure your result. Please keep in mind that there are usually weeks or months between each of these steps. The court is not the fastest institution in the world, but we have it covered!
Q. I want to challenge my ticket! How do I request a court date?
A. Let Ticket Crushers do it for you. If you hire us within 30 days from the date your citation was issued, our office will request a court date on your behalf. Otherwise, you must let the county know, within 30 days, that you want a hearing.
Q. I already requested a court date. Can I still hire you?
A. Yes. If your case is already set for court, we’ll go on that date. When you hire us, we’ll file a notice with the court letting them know that we are going to appear on your behalf. The county clerk’s office will let us know when your date is set.
Q. Do I have to appear in court myself?
A. No, if you hire Ticket Crushers, an attorney from our office appears on your behalf for all non-criminal violations. Usually, there is no reason for you to come to court with us. After all, you hire us to save you time! But in some unusual cases, coming to court with us will maximize your chances of winning your particular case. We will analyze your case when you hire us and let you know the best course of action.
Q. If I don’t need to go to court, why did I receive a notice in the mail from the court with a court date?
A. This one is confusing, and we do receive lots of questions about it. But it is actually simple: The court is required to send you notification of all hearings on your case. There is no need to call and confirm any court dates with us.
Q. If I am challenging the ticket, do I also have to pay for it?
A. No. Requesting a hearing means the county will not be expecting payment from you. The case will then be set for a court date and ruled upon by a Judge or Hearing Officer. If your case is dismissed, no fine and/or court costs will be assessed. If the official believes you committed the infraction, you’ll have to pay the ticket plus court costs. Q. I lost the physical printed ticket that I was issued. Is this a problem?
A. Nope, no problem. Just contact us and we’ll obtain your ticket information from the county public records.
Q. Can you guarantee my case results?
A. Unfortunately not. California lawyers are not allowed to guarantee results. We review each case on an individual basis. While many of the cases we handle are dismissed, we can’t promise the outcome of a court hearing. Q. Does Ticket Crushers handle closed traffic ticket cases? And what is the Traffic Ticket Amnesty Program?
A. Ticket Crushers can help you on open traffic ticket cases. And we can even sometimes assist you with a case if you just recently failed to appear in traffic court. But we cannot assist with closed traffic ticket cases, meaning tickets already paid for or in collections. We also do not handle traffic ticket appeals. However, if you have a closed traffic ticket case, you may be eligible for the Traffic Ticket Amnesty Program. Ticket Crushers does not assist with the program. It is a government program that works directly with eligible people, allowing them to pay a reduced amount on their unpaid or partially paid traffic ticket(s). Eligibility is based on when you got the ticket(s) and your income. To see if you are eligible, you should contact the superior court in the jurisdiction(s) where you received the ticket(s). Once you complete and submit a form to the court, the court staff will work with you directly to determine your eligibility to participate in the amnesty program.
